What is a TUS?

Temperature Uniformity Survey (TUS) under AMS2750 in plain words, and the mistakes that get TUS reports rejected in audits.

Also available in: Türkçe

A Temperature Uniformity Survey (TUS) shows whether every point in a furnace’s work zone is at the same temperature. The controller may read 850 °C while a corner or the door side runs hotter or colder. The TUS measures that spread and checks it against the limits of the furnace class under AMS2750.

The mistakes behind rejected TUS reports

  1. No sensor location drawing, or an unclear one
  2. Correction factors not applied, or applied with the wrong sign
  3. Test temperatures that do not cover the furnace’s operating range
  4. Missed survey intervals
  5. No new survey after a repair or heating element change

Which of these is in your records?

Knowing the list is easy. The real question is which one sits in your own reports. They slip past when files are read by eye, and auditors look for them first. Upload your TUS data to NTB SpecPro and see in minutes which points carry risk, why, and what to do next.

The NTB SpecPro heat treat module applies corrections, compares the hottest and coldest points with the furnace class and prepares the report. It can read recorder charts from a photo. Final evaluation stays with your authorized pyrometry personnel.
