How to prepare for a Nadcap audit

Preparing for a Nadcap special-process audit: how the audit runs and the finding types that come up again and again.

Also available in: Türkçe

Nadcap is the aerospace industry’s common audit program for special processes such as heat treating, welding, chemical processing, coatings, NDT and composites. Most major aerospace primes require it from suppliers that perform these processes.

How the audit runs

  1. The supplier chooses the processes and sub-processes to be audited.
  2. It completes a self-audit before the audit date.
  3. An auditor reviews the process, the records and the people on site.
  4. Findings are written; the supplier answers with root cause and corrective action.
  5. Accreditation follows once findings are closed.

The findings that come up most

Most findings are not technical. They come from missing evidence:

  • Undated or expired calibration records
  • Unapproved or outdated procedures
  • Incomplete training and qualification records
  • Customer requirements not flowed into procedures
  • Process parameters that cannot be shown in records
  • Corrective actions that never reach the root cause

Which gaps are in your records?

Knowing the list is easy. The real question is which of these sit in your own records. They slip past when files are read by eye, and auditors look for them first. Upload your procedures and records to NTB SpecPro and see in minutes which points carry risk, why, and what to do next.

The NTB SpecPro Nadcap module reviews your documents as a self-assessment and shows weak points and an action plan. You can also request an expert review from our process quality engineers.
