ISO 3834 is the standard that defines quality requirements for the fusion welding of metallic materials. It rests on the idea that weld quality comes not from "product inspection" but from a properly managed process. It is frequently required in fields such as structural steel (EN 1090), pressure equipment and railways.
Levels
- ISO 3834-2, comprehensive quality requirements: The most commonly required level; critical products.
- ISO 3834-3, standard quality requirements: Intermediate level.
- ISO 3834-4, elementary quality requirements: Low-risk fabrication.
Which level is required is determined by customer requirements, the risk of the product and the product standard applied.

Which of these is in your records?
Knowing the list is easy. The real question is which one is missing from your own records. These gaps slip past when files are read by eye, and auditors look for them first. Upload your quality documents to NTB SpecPro and quickly see which points may carry risk, the likely reason and a suggestion.
Preparation
Before the certification audit you must have a written arrangement and a record for each of these topics. The NTB SpecPro ISO 3834 module reviews the documents you upload for self-assessment and lists the topics that need improvement. You can also request an Expert review from our process quality engineer.
